About MI - Our Rules & Regulations

Our School Rules aim to set the standard of behaviour expected of all Millennia Institute students and to attain a moral tone that is conducive for learning and essential for life in society.

1. Community

Every student in MI is part of the Institutional community. In this respect, there is a need to foster a spirit of mutual help and cooperation and to follow rules that are for the good of all.

2. Flag-raising Ceremony

Purpose: The solemn observation of the ceremony and respect shown to the State and Institute symbols like the flag reflect our sense of pride and loyalty to the state and the Institute. Any disrespectful behaviour displayed during the ceremony is considered a serious offence.

The Institute shall assemble punctually at 0800 hours for the morning flag-raising ceremony. The National Anthem shall be sung and the pledge solemnly recited.

All students who are Singapore citizens must sing the National Anthem and recite the Pledge. Students shall recite the Pledge with the right fist placed over the heart.

3. Institute Attire and General Appearance

Purpose: The student image as a united body, upholding values of discipline, decency and propriety, is projected through our uniform and general appearance. Flaunting expensive and/or branded items is discouraged as these pose security problems for students.

The standard uniform consists of light-blue shirt and trousers for male students and light-blue blouse and skirt for female students. The uniform is to be worn during lessons, Institute activities and inter-school functions.

All students are to wear the prescribed school uniform and no modification to the uniform is allowed. The uniform should not be tight fitting. Non-Institute T-shirts worn under the Institute shirt or blouse must be plain and white.

4. Attendance and Punctuality

Purpose: Attendance is important not just for academic progress but also as a mark of respect and loyalty to the Institute and others. Punctuality when attending classes or Institute functions is also a desirable social habit, a form of courtesy and a vital work ethic.

Attendance is compulsory at the flag-raising ceremony, assembly talks, academic and co-curricular lessons and Institute functions.

Students who are absent from class lessons or Institute functions must provide a medical certificate the following day.

Students are not allowed to leave the Institute before 1330 hours without permission. Application for leave from the Institute must be made on the appropriate Institute sign-out card authorised by the Principal or HOD and the Home Tutor. Disciplinary action shall be taken against students infringing this rule.

If a student is ill and needs to rest, he/she shall seek permission from the Home Tutor, Subject Tutor, HOD or Principal. This permission must be endorsed in the student's personal sign-out card. Arrangement shall then be made for him/her to rest at a designated venue.

A student who is seriously ill should be brought to the notice of his/her Home Tutor or any other teacher who is available, who in turn shall inform the office and notify the student's parent or guardian.

Persistent absence from the Institute without acceptable reasons and frequent late-coming are serious offences and parents shall be duly informed. Records of attendance and punctuality shall be documented in the Report Book and Personal Profile as a reference for future educational institutions, prospective employers and relevant authorities.

5. General Behaviour

Purpose: Students should conduct themselves responsibly so that all can benefit from a pleasant and conducive learning environment within the Institute. More significantly, they should strive to become morally upright citizens who are respectful towards authority.

All rules pertaining to the use of the Institute's resources, facilities and equipment, and rules governing CCA groups are to be complied with. Students are expected to use Institute property responsibly.

Students are expected to maintain orderliness for all activities within the Institute.

The personal use of portable audio music sets by students within the Institute premises should not be audible to others and are strictly disallowed during lessons. Students shall not use pagers or hand phones in school. The Institute reserves the right to confiscate these. Subsequently, the devices can be reclaimed only by the parents/guardians of the student concerned.

The following misbehaviours are considered serious offences which render offenders liable for expulsion.

a. Cheating during tests/examinations;
b. Forging of Medical Certificates or altering other official documents;
c. Theft and Vandalism;
d. Gambling;
e. Consumption of alcoholic drinks, drugs and/or cigarettes;
f. Possession of contrabands;
g. Any behaviour that is prejudicial to the conduct of good order.

6. Cleanliness, Safety and Use of Utilities in the Institute

The observation of hygienic, safe and environmentally responsible practices ensures a clean and pleasant Institute for our use so that all can enjoy a comfortable and conducive learning environment.

Littering on the premises mars the appearance and lowers the hygienic standards of the Institute. All litter must therefore be properly disposed of.

In the canteen, students should clear away all utensils and containers after use. There should be no eating or drinking in any classroom, or various resource rooms such as the library, lecture theatres and study areas.

To reduce wastage of energy, lights and fans should be switched off before a room is vacated.

Any defect or damage to Institute property shall be duly reported to the General Office.

Students are to seek permission before notices are posted on walls or notice boards.

For the security of students, no overnight stay on the Institute premises is permitted unless organised by a teacher with parental consent and approval from the Principal.

Persons who do not belong to Millennia Institute should not be invited to the premises, participate in any Institute activity, instruct or address students without approval from the Principal.

No item of any sort may be sold or advertised with the purpose of soliciting sales within the Institute without approval from the Principal.

Rules and Regulations pertaining to specific matters on discipline are available on the Disciplinary Regulations for Students.
