At the beginning of 2009, the Young Innovators Club was assigned the paramount project to create a memorable opening segment for the MI Official Opening Ceremony. Hence, the club spent many months conceptualising, building prototypes and redesigning robots.  Thanks to the members’ time and effort put into the project, the Minister of Education was able to launch the school’s official opening by activating four robotics panels to unveil the school sculpture during the actual ceremony. During these times, YIC members gained many useful experiences and problem-solving skills.
 
YIC members were also given opportunities to run two competitions, Singapore Vex Robotics Competition 2009 and West Cluster RoboFest 2009. They showcased their leadership qualities to many as they were trained as game coordinators, game referees and student-helpers leader. This experience impressed upon them the importance of being responsible and enhanced their communication skills.
 
The Young Innovators Club was awarded the Bronze Awards for the Asian Robotics League Vex Championship at the start of the year. Most of the PU1 students were also given the opportunity to participate in the National Robotics Junior Competition in September 2009 to gain relevant knowledge in robotics. YIC anticipates an activity-filled year in 2010, whereby new programmes and competitions would be introduced.
