Nurul Syazana IsmailBetween December 2006 and February 2007, the Institute’s Malay dancers were engaged in a rigorous training programme that included intensive rehearsals and a 2-day camp in March. The primary focus of the programme was to prepare them for the prestigious SYF Dance Central Judging held in March at the NUS Cultural Centre. With much toil, sweat and tears, the 21 strong team put up an excellent performance and brought glory to the Institute by clinching a Silver Award.
The dancers were also involved in a number of key Institute events that provided ample platform for the team to showcase their talents. Such events included the Chinese New Year Celebration, Okinawa Japanese Exchange Programme, Institute Day and the Racial Harmony Day performances. These events also opened up opportunities for the student dancers to choreograph and direct their own dance items.
The team had the honour of gracing the stage once again during the inaugural MI Nite (Transcendence) 2007 with a unique dance entitled ‘Samrah Persada’. The explosive performance by the team gained favourable comments from the audience. The event provided an enriching and memorable end to the year for the team.
