The Drama Society, also known as the Millennian Stage, constantly seeks opportunities to showcase its members’ talents in acting, directing and script-writing. In 2009, the society accomplished these on various occasions such as the Chinese New Year celebrations and the Arts Fringe festivities during MI’s official opening.
As part of the Chinese New Year celebrations, some of the society’s members participated in a play that touched on the importance of the traditional Chinese reunion dinner. The play incorporated elements of humour as well as many heartwarming moments. The fast-paced performance was entertaining and received much positive feedback from the audience.
For Arts Fringe 2009, the Millennian Stage chose to adopt a different and rather refreshing approach. The play ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ explored the different dimensions of stage acting through a parody of the well-known fairy tale ‘Cinderella’ with vocal accompaniment.
The club also endeavoured to equip members with greater performing skills to hone their drama abilities. Apart from the performances, members of the Drama Society increased their exposure to the world of theatre by going to plays by W!LD RICE, one of Singapore’s leading professional theatre companies. They also attended drama training sessions by Ms Arianna Pozzuoli to develop their skills in the different aspects of performance to keep them in good stead for SYF 2010.
It is the mission of the Drama Society to build the prerequisite skills necessary to assist its members, allowing each and every individual to become more confident, creative, intuitive and empathetic.
