The year 2009 was a year of consolidation and growth for the team. The team continued to grow in strength and was a force to be reckoned with in the National ‘A’ Division 15-a-side Police Cup competition. Though the team did not qualify for the second round, there was a marked improvement in the performance of the team, where it lost narrowly to other colleges in the first round.

Nevertheless, the team overcame its Police Cup setback and came out stronger by beating several polytechnics and colleges to achieve the Bowl runner-up in the M1 10-a-side competition held at the Republic Polytechnic in May.

2009 also proved to be a bumper crop year for the MI Rugby Club, with keen interest shown among the PU 1 students. The club now has 38 committed players, with more than two-thirds of the members from the PU1 cohort.

Led by A’bdar Rahmaan and assisted by Jasden Hoe, the team has grown in maturity, unity and commitment to the sport. The team is now even more motivated to do well in 2010.

The team would like to express their gratitude to the Coach, Mr Tay Soo Chuan for his immense patience and the senior players, particularly A’bdar Rahmaan (07B3), Jasden Hoe (07B2), Rajpal Singh (07B3) and Muhd Sufri (07B3), for their passion and generosity in imparting skills and knowledge of rugby.
