2009 has been a year of learning and consolidation for the Millennia Institute hockey team. This journey has focused not just on developing the students’ skills and performance on the hockey pitch, but also on capability building.
Highlights of the year not only included the solid matches played, but also other learning points gained from teamwork. Numerous friendly matches and hockey carnivals became platforms for our players to hone their skills and game proficiency. In line with our aim to nurture our players in off-pitch competencies as well, they were also given the chance to lead and organise school-related events such as CCA Open House, Hockey Trials and the Day Camp held in March. Other related courses included Level 1 Hockey Umpiring Course and the First Aid Course. Students who showed potential were also selected for the Talent Management Programme. In addition, some of our students were also chosen to represent the national age-group teams and had the opportunity to train with the national team. Some have gone on to represent club sides in the local leagues as well. The teams were also involved in several projects that not only solidified their sense of camaraderie and spirit of community service, but also heightened awareness of the scientific research done in their sport, which enhanced their general knowledge.
Achievements & Highlights:
• National A Division Tournament 2009
• Singapore Recreational Club 6 Aside Tournament
• 5 Aside Carnival at 5 @The Village by Hockey One
• Crescent Girls Club Carnival 2009 (Open category)
• Hockey Alumni members donated $200 for Millennia Institute Official Opening (MIOO)
• In May, the Hockey team raised $300 for MIOO by assisting one of the lecturers in NIE/PESS, Mr Gurmit Singh, in his research.
• In July 2009, the teams became subjects for Mr Mohamed Aris’ research on hockey players, a PhD candidate from School of Human Movement Studies, Queensland University.
