The Millennia Institute bowling team saw steady progress in 2009. Apart from the successful recruitment of 11 new Pre-U 1 students from various courses, the year also witnessed a fresh start with the appointment of a new teacher-in-charge, Miss Lee Nian Tjie. The team would also like to thank the out-going teacher, Mdm Rasiah Buang, for her continued support and dedication, as well as the out-going coach, Mr Sandra Sageran, who was responsible for developing the skills, tactical strategies and the overall team’s approach towards the sport. Through the many training sessions held at Bukit Batok Civil Service Club and Jurong Super Bowl, the team showed significant improvement during the 2009 A-Division National competitions. The highlight for the team was the 16th National Schools’ Tenpin Bowling Championship ‘A’ Division competition held at Orchid Bowl Country Club. This event, which was held between 27th April to 7th May 2009, saw a total of 140 girls and 169 boys from various Junior Colleges and Institutes participating in the Singles, Doubles and Quartet competitions. To top it off, one of our teams which comprised Nur Assyikin, Anna Nicole, Khairunnisa K.Salleh and Claudia Lim displayed a commendable performance – the team was ranked 9th out of 38 teams based on the overall team competition scores. Another team consisting of Nyeoh Chin Seng, Sanjeev Ramesh, Bealson Sim ansd Ang Swee Wan also exhibited laudable effort, coming in 14th place for the overall team competition. 2009 marked the best performing year so far, with 2 competition representatives, namely Nyeoh Chin Seng and Nur Assyikin, achieving 56th and 62nd individual ranking respectively out of 309 participants. The team would also like to thank the outgoing Captains – Ang Swee Wan and Anna Nicole for all of their contributions and all of us look forward to working with the new student leaders in 2009 to develop talent and do Millennia Institute proud.
