The Business Department in Millennia Institute has under its purview, subjects such as Economics at H1 and H2 levels, as well as Management of Business and Principles of Accounting at H2 level. Being the only centralised institute that offers Management of Business and Principles of Accounting at ‘A’ Levels, it plays a unique role in the education arena.
Through the teaching of these subjects, our department aims to provide students with a platform to apply business skills and concepts they have learnt in the classrooms to the marketplace. Such experiential learning is emphasised as part of their holistic learning through the many initiatives such as the annual MI Mart, Business Week, Financial Literacy Programme and other Entrepreneurship initiatives.
The emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation is in line with MI’s initiative of being an institute with a business focus. This is imperative in a highly globalised world where business acumen and creativity are highly valued by employers.
Interdisciplinary programmes such as the MI Mart have enabled students to apply business skills in an authentic learning environment through the process of setting up a business. Activities intended to hone these skills include developing business plans, fundraising, marketing and pricing strategies. The MI Mart has provided an avenue for teachers to instill the institute’s core values of integrity, responsibility, respect and resilience in our students.
The Business department consists of a team of dedicated teachers with a vast array of industry experience and knowledge, which is often integrated into daily classroom teaching. We also adopt the Paul’s Reasoning model in teaching business subjects, an approach which aims to develop independent learning, critical thinking and enduring understandings.

"We offer enrichment programmes such as LCCI Book-keeping & Accounts (2nd Level) and ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (CAT). In 2006, our students achieved 100% passes (with 72% distinctions) in June 2006 LCCI examination."
"Not all Singaporeans are academically inclined, but almost all have qualities and abilities which can be developed to benefit society and themselves." - Mr Lee Yock Suan.
"I would like to envision Millennia Institute as an institution of learning that students:
- have the experience of a varied range of learning styles
- make use of ICT as an integral part of their learning in all subject areas
- are active participants in the learning process
- have a better understanding of where they are and the progress they need to make in order to improve
- experience a curriculum that is wide but more focused on their needs – to include a strong element in learning enduring skills in order to stay relevant and adaptable in a dynamically changing world
- view their time at Millennia Institute as a part of their time of life-long learning
- have increased but realistic aspirations for future careers and not just jobs."
-Mr Lai Keng Chung (SH, Entrepreneurship)
"As professional educators, we would like to impart enduring skills that will enable students from Millennia Institute (MI) to stay relevant and adaptable in a dynamic changing world.
Our student development programmes will ensure students to be effective communicators yet enterprising to provide innovative solutions. Some of our programmes in MI are: career guidance, job attachment, dual track education with diploma as well as Entrepreneurship & Leadership development. It is in hope that our students will be contributing members of the society who have integrity and are able to inspire and motivate others."
